...But How?

Firstly, you must section off the hair into however many dreadlocks you want. A normal full head of hair should produce between 20 and 30 dreadlocks, depending on the thickness of the dreads and the natural volume of the hair.
Then, select a section of hair and get a very sturdy comb (I use a fork for this part). Comb the hair from the end towards the skull repeatedly, until it becomes knotted and tangled. You may also pull apart the hair from the ends to achieve this affect. Note that this is not yet a dread, but rather a tangly mess of hair.

In Comes the Dredder

Finally, Repeat step(s) 3a-3c while moving up the length of the dreadlock. When you reach the end, the dreadlock should be complete! Now repeat this with the other hair you sectioned off in Step 1, until you have a desired amount of dreadlocks. Congratulations, you are done!

Now we begin to talk about The Dredder itself. The purpose it serves it to turn a whole bunch of frizzy hair into a solid and sturdy dreadlock, which will be permanently locked into the hair. The images at left show a cross section of a soon-to-be dread and instructions on how to move The Dredder to create perfect dreadlock consistency.

You will simply stick The Dredder through the base of the hair and proceed to pull the loose hair on the outside back into the middle of the dread. Usually this is done many times very quickly, with the needlepoint coming out of the opposite end of the dread at different angles each time.

When all the hair is pulled into the middle, pull the dredder out of the dread, and then repeat the whole process starting 90 degrees from the first place you inserted the dredder. After this, the base of your dred should be complete.
